Mindfulness seems like a self-explanatory word. But what does it mean?
Mindfulness is the state of mind in which you focus entirely on here and now. It means you’re aware of your thoughts and can prevent them from drifting away. Mindfulness is your ability to ignore both internal and external distractions.
Even though such peace of mind is inherent to all humans, we can train our mindfulness. Here are some quick and easy tricks to improve your everyday awareness.
- The human mind is narcissistic. When we’re doing nothing, our brains build an extensive narrative of hopes, dreams, and thoughts. Fortunately, we can interrupt this process. That is where mindful meditation comes in. Try meditating regularly to stop your train of thought and calm your mind.
- Attend yoga classes or exercise at home. Yoga helps you relax, and there are some poses you can easily practice on your own.
- Do sports. This one is easy! Ride a bike or go jogging to reduce stress. Exercising at home works great as well, but you should be honest with yourself. Avoid coming up with excuses to stop.
- Pause for a short while. Regrettably, we lack remotes with a pause button for our lives but don’t let that be a problem. Stop for a minute on your way to work or during groceries. Take a few deep breaths to clear your mind and reflect on your actions.
- Practice. That is the most crucial. Repeat the above tricks daily and you’ll see a difference in no time.
If you want to reach mindfulness, you should follow these few easy tricks. Meditate to avoid thought clutter and practice yoga and sport to relax both body and mind. Give yourself time to stop during your day, even for a minute.
Make sure you repeat this mindfulness cheat sheet systematically. Your awareness will grow and you’ll be able to focus on here and now.
